The Other Side of the Indian Rape Story

i'm posting this story, not to defend an indefensible act, but to try to provide some balance.

the fact is that so many indians exist in a poverty so deep that it's difficult for westerners to even understand.

the youngest of the rapists in the now world known rape story, according to this uk, independent newspaper story, grew up in that world that seems hopeless.

Admittedly I didn't read the article as I'm at work right now and inundated with projects. Wanted to say thanks for posting the article as it's good to see all sides of the story. Have to check it out later. I think I understand what you're trying to articulate regarding the obstacles young men face in India when it comes to marriage considering the caste system and economics. I don't think it's ever been proven that the Catholic Church's policy on priests not marrying has fostered an enviroment prone to pedophilia, but it's definately a possibility. India might be in a similar state with so many young people unable to satisfy natural sexual desire.

I want to say it was 20/20???, that did a report on certain spots in Asian lands where people discouraged having daughters for so long that the ratio between men and women is so out of sync that women are being kidnapped to become wives of people's sons. There are areas where it's dangerous to be a woman as there are just sex crazed young men who according to the report can't help themselves. We're talking towns where the ratio of men to women is like 10:1 which is just asking for problems.

Wasn't it not that long ago there was a video of an American or UK newscaster who while reporting in the middle east on camera, guys started copping feels and you could see they started getting aggressive to the point she had to be rushed to safety? I think it was said there were people inside a Hardees resteraunt that felt helpless watching her as they could see it developing and were hoping she would make it to their doors where they could protect her.

It's a crazy world.

edit post: before somebody says I'm excusing the behavior of these men, save it. Not excusing anything, just discussing the circumstances.

after reading through onedayillbefree's thread about being taken into the back room and asked inappropriate questions, i was reminded about a part done at the km school.

one of the common themes throughout the one day school was viewing things the way god sees them and how doing so will require that elders develope insight.

they defined insight as, evaluating individual aspects in light of others, or getting & understanding facts and how all relate to one another.. next, they gave specific examples where an elder will need insight in order to assist wayward sheep.

After reading through Onedayillbefree's thread about being taken into the back room and asked inappropriate questions, I was reminded about a part done at the KM School. One of the common themes throughout the one day school was viewing things the way God sees them and how doing so will require that elders develope insight. They defined insight as, evaluating individual aspects in light of others, or getting & understanding facts and how all relate to one another.

Next, they gave specific examples where an elder will need insight in order to assist wayward sheep. The very first situation mentioned from the platform was about understanding why one misses meetings and that elders can understand why with discernment and insight. Whether this can also be used as a green light to go after ones who are in phase one of fading, I guess time will tell. The speaker then went into 1 Tim 2:7 which states that the Lord will give one understanding the the true discernment that comes from God.

The speaker then went into James 1:25 where it talks about peering into the law which will help one to truly understand a matter. This is where they tested the audience and Sir82 already delved into this concerning the man collecting sticks on the Sabbath as recorded. At this point the speaker illustrated the difference between one who thinks human thoughts and one that thinks with Godly thoughts. The man collecting sticks was put to death and anyone who views the punishment as being harsh, is looking at the matter with human discernment. The person thinking with Godly discerment will view the punishment as appropriate considering the man had 6 other days to gather wood so why'd he wait until the Sabbath to do so? Also the very fact that he was put into custody while they determined what to do with him demonstrated just how serious the matter was.

That said, the speaker made a correlation between how ones view the punishment given to the one collecting sticks, and how one today views missing meetings. He gave the example of a brother with a family, who has been laid off from work for the past 6 months but has recently been offered a job. However this new job will cause him to miss most midweek meetings and one Sunday meeting a month. If he takes the job, then it shows he's thinking with human wisdom as opposed to Godly wisdom. It would show that his own fears would trump God's views. It would also be more detrimental to take the job because of the spiritual impact it would have on his family. Elders while not telling the man what to do, would be doing the right thing by letting the man know how God would view the matter.

I hadn't thought much about that part at the school, but after reading Onedayillbefree's recent experience it made me wonder if some of the more zealous elders might start going after folks who start to fall off.

long time lurker, but now i can get my twopenneth in.. a brief history.. born into the religion, but it never really took hold - thankful for an easily bored mind and strong, worldly grandparents.. never very interested - dragged from meeting to field service.

in the teenage years i wanted university and my parents want a pioneer.

Was thinking about this some nights ago. They want you to sacrifice so much in this life, but what they replace it with including all that we do/have now that's related to the organization and what's supposedly promised in the future, is sadly deficient as a viable replacement. Sometimes I think the old Bible verse about "let us eat and drink for tomorrow we are to die" should be changed to "let us eat and drink for dying just might be better than the WT's interpretation of paradise."

Django - Trailer - does this encourage Racism? View at your own descretion

i am not normally one to give opinion on movies, however i saw this christmas trailer the other night and it made me think (it's at the end of the trailer and spoken by jamie foxx (he is django).
